Monster – A Short Story Idea

Welcome to the Authors Audit. Here you will have the opportunity to be a part of the creation, editing, illustrating, and more editing process of the literary works we create.
For this post, we are looking into a short story called “” It is a story about the transformation of two brothers. We get thrown into the end of what seems to be a Millenia of torment and rage that is experienced by the brothers. Then a closer look at how the times have really changed them.
Will begging for redemption be enough to salvage the ruins of a brothers love?

Below you will find a written piece for a short story book we are planning to publish and possibly turn into a feature film. We were hoping to get some feedback from you to gauge the content and how the audience responds to it.  Let us know what you think.

The warm blood covered his nose and bathed its teeth as the thick chunks of flesh made its way down its esophagus, and into the screaming pit of its insatiable stomach.

It seemed like it had been forever since the last meal, and it just couldn’t get to the delicious meat fast enough. Indecipherable sounds of pleasure and satisfaction came rushing out between bites and swallows. This was a good hunt, a well deserve treat.

The tender flesh of this young male was just what it needed to replenish its depleting strength.

The journey was long and the road a head was even longer.

The drive up the mountain was peaceful. The windows down in the midnight blue GMC pickup truck allowed the breeze to sweep over their faces. Demacia and his German Shepherd, and best friend, Judah.
Demacia glanced over at Judah, and saw what looked like a grin on the dogs face. It brought a smile to his.
The autumn leaves looked like a panoramic tapestry of oil paintings, hung in a well lit gallery.
Filled with massive oaks, tall pine, and aromatic cedars.
The music on the radio was a mixture of rock and roll and heavy metal, background noise just to drown out thoughts.

The journey took them from sun up to sunset. The two were driving into the darkness. Demacia glanced in the rearview mirror just in time to see the last bit of the setting sun slip below the horizon. Like a switch going off the suns light went out.

Not long after the sun set Demacia and Judah reached the camp site. This weekend was going to be a relaxing and exciting weekend for the best friends.

The camp was littered with campfire reminding Demacia of a memory that lingered from a time he could not quite remember. The memory stirred within his chest, building up the emotions of an unknown rage.
Judahs response was a loud belly filled bark, that echoed throughout the campground, announcing their arrival.

A few campers whom recognized the pair from the bark, approached to say hello and have a conversation, that was abruptly ended with an excuse from Demacia. Demacia was eager to enter his cabin and prepare for dinner. So was Judah.

The pair finally reached their destination. The cabin was a finely crafted piece of architecture, built by Demacia himself. An eclectic wooden art work with a hint modernism. The structure would make any master mason envious of the craftsmanship. The interior was a magnificent sight to behold. Fitted with a winding staircase and made entirely out of cedar wood and oak.

Demacia made his way to the kitchen to prep for dinner. Opening the back door for Judah to roam.
The backyard was a large open field connected to the open lake. Filled with Oaks and evergreens and wild weeds and flowers.
Judah loved to roam in the fields. He especially loved to hunt for the game within.

Within an hour dinner was ready and Demacia was famished. Stepping on the back porch, he called out to Judah, only to be met by a response unlike any other. A wail that echoed through the dark forest that would set panic to any parent.

Reaching for his hunting riffle Demacia headed in the direction of the crying child. Judah nowhere to be seen.

The moonlight was very faint beneath the leaves in the forest. Demacia wished he had brought his flash light, but in his haste, he had forgotten.

He knew he was getting close, there was a foul scent in the air and the sounds of a hungry beast ravaging its victim could be heard as well. His first thought was, Judah, as he approach he noticed the hulking beast that resembled a bear. Massive paws and what could only be understood as razor sharp claws. This beast was large.

Scattered on the ground were the remains of what use to be a boy.

Where was Judah?

At that very moment, the beast raised it’s head and made eye contact with Demacia.
On the exterior, he was calm, but his heart beat faster with each ticking second.
The blood dripped down the jaws of the beast, and a low growl emerged as he barred its teeth, while Demacia raised his riffle to aim.

Where was Judah?

This is our draft idea. What do you all think?
